The 2023 TCS New York City Marathon, held on Sunday, November 5, was the world’s largest marathon this year with 51,402 total finishers and was the third largest edition of the race in history. Within the marathon field were just over 60 runners from Pennsylvania and beyond, all participating with the same goal: to raise funds to benefit children and adults with disabilities at Allied Services.
For athletes representing Team Allied Services, the race was the culmination of months of training and fundraising efforts. On November 10th, the annual campaign, now in its 14th year, came to a close with the announcement that $465,272 was raised for Allied Services in 2023.
“It’s unbelievable, and the beautiful part is all of these funds will stay right here in Northeastern and Central Pennsylvania to take care of children and families in our area that need our services,” commented Attorney Bill Conaboy, President & CEO of Allied Services, at the unveiling of the fundraising total.
“Year after year, our community rallies behind our cause, and the continued success of this charity campaign after 14 years shows how much our supporters value the life-changing work our employees do daily. Their support and the donations we receive profoundly impact our health care system and our ability to help our patients and residents reach their goals.”
This year's campaign proceeds will benefit Allied Services pediatric programs serving patients with disabilities and life-changing injuries.
“Our pediatric programs are one of the more difficult programs to sustain, but we view them as an essential part of our mission,” commented Bob Cole, PhD, Senior Vice President of Allied Services. “We want to ensure that we are able to continue to serve our community the best way we can for years to come.” Cole was 1 of 5 Allied Services employees who participated in Team Allied Services and the 2023 TCS New York City Marathon.
Throughout all their levels of care, each day, Allied Services staff and volunteers touch the lives of more than 5,000 people. The continuum of care the non-profit health system provides includes mental health services, home health, non-medical in-home care, inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation, hospice and palliative care, residential care for individuals with disabilities, skilled nursing, personal care, and vocational services.
