A positive, supportive, and informative environment to help people with Parkinson's to live well! This free support group is open to people with Parkinson's and their care partners. Each month features a different speaker.
Deep Brain Stimulation
In this session, we'll discuss who is an appropriate candidate and when the right time is for deep brain stimulation.
Meet the Speaker: Erik Weikert
Erik Weikert is the Therapy Representative for the Medtronic Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) Division for the past 13 years, covering the Central and Eastern half of Pennsylvania to about one hour North of Philadelphia. Erik covers this area with two additional Medtronic DBS colleagues, Bruce Vernet (22 years) and Tami Fabian (4 years). He has supported physicians with various device technologies in this geographic area since 1999. The device technologies have provided solutions in cardiology, various surgery subspecialties, neurosurgery, and neurology.
The greatest privilege he has had in his professional career has been supporting physicians caring for people with Movement Disorder Diseases (Parkinson’s Disease, Essential Tremor, and Dystonia). “It is absolutely amazing to see the improvement in Quality of Life that Medtronic DBS Therapy can offer to the Right Person at the Right Time”.
Erik strongly believes in empowering people with the background knowledge they need to make the best decisions for their health. This is why he is excited to have the opportunity to educate people about Medtronic DBS Therapy; and equally understand, who is an appropriate candidate for it and when to consider it. He understands that this therapy is a big decision for someone and is happy to be an educational resource.
People considering DBS Therapy should have an in-depth discussion with their healthcare providers about their candidacy. Still, he hopes that the information shared brings more clarity for an impactful conversation with their care partners.
