Kayla's Story: Working Towards what you Love

Wouldn’t it be great to work at a job you love and also get to go to school for free? Well, for one Allied Services employee, that’s not a dream, but a reality.

Kayla Sneed of Scranton has worked at Allied Services for two years now. She has spent the last five months working in the Vocational Services Division (VSD) as a Direct Support Professional. The VSD provides training and employment opportunities for individuals with disabilities.

Kayla works in vocational training center in Scranton where individuals with developmental disabilities enrolled in the vocational program receive a wage for packing and sorting products for local businesses. In her role as a direct support professional, Kayla spends her days supervising and helping the program participants. And she loves it!

“I absolutely love interacting with all of my clients. Having them come in and eventually seeing them succeed is one of the best feelings in the world.”

Now seeking to increase her career potential, Kayla is pursuing a bachelor's degree in Human Services at Lackawanna College through one of the many programs that Allied Services offers its employees.

“When I was deciding on a degree, I chose Human Services in part because of my work at Allied. A great perk is that I still get to work here while I’m in school!”

“I’m so fortunate. Not only do I get to do what I fell in love with, but I also get to go to school for free.”

Allied Services supports educational and career development opportunities for employees through a range of scholarship programs, tuition reimbursement, and partnerships with local colleges and universities like Lackawanna College. Through these programs, Allied Services helps employees realize their educational goals at a reduced cost or sometimes at no cost.

“I’ve really grown to have this care in my heart for those who have disabilities, and anything that I can do to help is amazing. It’s a great feeling.”

“After I get my degree, there’s a good chance that I might be able to climb the career ladder at the VSD. Nothing’s set in stone yet, but I’m hopeful for the future. I’m excited to get the chance to keep doing what I love outside of school.”
