Ronald McDonald House Family Room Opens at Allied Services

Allied Services and Ronald McDonald House Charities of Scranton celebrated the grand opening of the Ronald McDonald House Family Room on February 27, 2026, at the Allied Services John P. Moses, Esq. Pediatric Rehabilitation Center in Scranton. The ribbon-cutting ceremony marked an important milestone - the first Ronald McDonald House Family Room of its kind located within an outpatient pediatric rehabilitation setting.

While Ronald McDonald House is widely recognized for providing comfortable, home-like spaces within or near hospitals, this new Family Room expands that mission into outpatient care. Designed with families in mind, the space offers a welcoming environment where parents, caregivers, and siblings can relax, recharge, and take a break without leaving the care setting.

The Family Room provides a place for families to enjoy a nutritious snack, rest between therapy appointments, or help siblings catch up on homework - all just steps away from their child’s physical, occupational, or speech therapy sessions. For many families served at Allied Services, care does not end at the hospital. Children with complex medical needs often attend multiple therapy appointments each week or even in one day, and families may spend extended periods of time at the center, particularly when more than one child is receiving services.

“This Family Room represents our commitment to meeting families wherever care happens,” said Rich Bradshaw of Ronald McDonald House Charities of Scranton. “While many people associate Ronald McDonald House with hospital settings, we know that families navigating outpatient rehabilitation face long days and unique challenges as well. By creating this space at Allied Services, we’re ensuring parents and caregivers have a place to recharge, gather their strength, and stay close to their child throughout the therapy journey.”

The first Ronald McDonald House Family Room in the United States opened in 1992, created to ensure families had a place to regain their own strength while remaining close to their child’s bedside. The Family Room at Allied Services builds on that legacy, extending comfort and support beyond hospital walls and into a setting where care continues every day.

“At Allied Services, we understand that healing extends beyond the therapy room,” said Atty. Bill Conaboy, President & CEO of Allied Services. “Families are an essential part of a child’s progress, and providing them with a comfortable, supportive environment is simply the right thing to do. The Ronald McDonald House Family Room enhances the care experience by recognizing the realities of outpatient rehabilitation and reinforcing our commitment to whole-family support.”

The new Family Room reflects a shared commitment between Allied Services and Ronald McDonald House Charities to ensure that families feel supported, welcomed, and cared for throughout their entire healthcare journey.
