Helping Patients Keep Their Feet on the Ground

The Balance Program at Allied Services treats patients with diagnoses that are related to vestibular and neurological disorders. Your eyes, nervous system, and inner ears all contribute to your sense of balance. However, if any one of these complex systems isn’t sending the proper signals to your brain, or your brain sending the right signals back, you may experience dizziness or become unstable. The good news is that many balance deficits can be improved with balance rehabilitation.

Allied Services Balance and Vestibular Programs provides specially trained therapists to help patients improve balance, decrease dizziness, minimize falls and reduce their need for medication and improve activity levels. About Vestibular Rehabilitation

Dizziness, vertigo, disequilibrium, blurred or bouncing vision, nausea and anxiety are common symptoms that may result from an issue with your vestibular system. These symptoms may range from mild, lasting only seconds or minutes to being severe, restricting activity.

Our specially trained therapists help patients decrease dizziness, minimize falls, reduce their need for medication and improve activity levels. Using the latest advancements in technology, coupled with knowledge from experts trained in vestibular rehabilitation, our team will develop a program specifically tailored to your needs.

Allied Services utilizes infrared video goggles for evaluation and treatment of peripheral and central vestibular disorders. The primary use of infrared video goggles is to see a close-up image of an individual’s eye. This allows the clinician to record and analyze the person’s eye movements. This visual observation is advantageous during the evaluation process and assists with diagnosing variants of Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo (BPPV). This increases the effectiveness of treating BPPV. It also assists in determining other potential contributors to an individual’s dizziness.

About the Balance Program

During everyday tasks, our brain assesses inputs from our vision, inner ear, and body to coordinate appropriate balance reactions. Problems in the brain or any of our sensory systems may result in loss of balance and/ or falls. While these sensory systems tend to decline with age and various medical conditions, imbalance can occur at any age.

The good news is that customized balance therapy can improve balance abilities and reduce risk of falls at every age. The Balance Program at Allied Services treats patients experiencing imbalance due to vestibular and neurological disorders, as well as general deconditioning. Our specially trained therapists evaluate strengths and limitations in each of the balance systems. Taking into account these objective measures and your personal goals, our team will design a program specifically tailored toward your individual needs.

Fall Prevention

Allied Services therapists help patients prevent falls with therapies designed to improve strength, flexibility, and balance, as well as necessary education and assistive devices. Patients leave Allied Services with individualized exercise regimens designed to improve balance and with renewed self-reliance and a feeling of independence.

Patient & Family Education

Family involvement is a key component of our program. We educate both the patient and his or her family or caregiver on any potential safety concerns. We also provide training and support to ensure that the patient’s treatment is able to continue at home and in other settings.
